Governance Gap.
Deployment velocity, minus governance coverage.
The distance between identity deployment velocity and identity governance coverage. Every non-human you ship without Lifecycle Authority widens it.
The reason this term exists.
The Governance Gap is the diagnostic number every board audit committee should be asking for. It is the number of non-human identities being deployed per week minus the number entering governance per week. When it is positive, the shadow estate is growing. When it is negative, the enterprise is catching up. Most organizations do not measure the gap because they cannot measure either half of it. NHIG platforms make both sides visible. A widening Governance Gap is a leading indicator of Identity Lifecycle Debt, of orphaned and rogue identities, and eventually of a breach that turns on a credential no one was tracking.
How Arkion applies it.
In an Arkion-governed estate, the Governance Gap is a first-class metric on the executive dashboard. It is broken down by team, by cloud, and by application, so a CIO can pinpoint which product area is shipping non-humans faster than governance can absorb them. Closing the gap becomes a scorecard item for the head of platform engineering.
